MINWAX 71091 SEMI GLOSS HIGH BUILD POLYURETHANE 350 VOC SIZE:1 GALLON.
MINWAX 71091 SEMI GLOSS HIGH BUILD POLYURETHANE 350 VOC SIZE:1 GALLON.

Minwax® High Build Polyurethane is a clear, oil-based, durable protective finish that is specially formulated to provide long-lasting beauty and protection with just two coats.

DIRECTIONS:

For project application:

1.Surface must be dry and free of paint, wax, grease, polish, dirt, old finishes in poor condition or other foreign matter.
2.Sand to obtain a smooth, uniform surface. Remove all dust and wipe with a cloth dampened with mineral spirits.
3.If desired, apply stain, such as Minwax® Wood Finish™ or Minwax® Gel Stain to bare wood following all label directions. Wait 8 hours before applying Minwax® High-Build Polyurethane over stain.
4.Stir High-Build Polyurethane before use to eliminate settling on the bottom of the can. DO NOT SHAKE.
5.Apply a THIN coat of High-Build Polyurethane using a high quality natural bristle or foam brush. Let dry at least 4-6 hours.
6.Lightly sand entire surface with 220-grit sandpaper. Remove all dust and wipe with a cloth dampened with mineral spirits.
7.Apply a second coat following directions in Steps 4 & 5.
8.Only two coats are required to achieve optimal film build and durability. If a third coat is desired, wait at least 12 hours and repeat Steps 6 & 7.
9.Allow 24 hours before light use.

For floor Application:
For new, stripped or unfinished floors

1.Surface must be dry and free of paint, wax, grease, polish, dirt, old finishes in poor condition or other foreign matter.
2.Sand using 100-grit sandpaper to obtain a smooth, uniform surface. If floor is not going to be stained, sand again using 120-grit. After each sanding, remove all dust and wipe floor with a cloth dampened with mineral spirits.
3.If desired, apply Minwax® Wood Finish™ or Minwax® Sanding Sealer to bare wood following all label directions. Wait 8 hours before applying Minwax® High-Build Polyurethane over Minwax® Wood Finish™ and 2 hours over Minwax® Sanding Sealer.
4.Stir High-Build Polyurethane before use to eliminate settling on the bottom of the can. DO NOT SHAKE.
5.Apply a thin coat using a lambswool or synthetic pad applicator. Maintain a wet edge to avoid lap marks. Ensure that the surface is evenly and entirely covered.
6.Wait 12-18 hours before sanding. Low temperature or high humidity will extend dry time. Check the surface to ensure it is not tacky to the touch before sanding.
7.For best results, use an orbital floor buffer with a maroon buffing pad specifically designed for sanding between coats. Do not use a belt or drum-type sander for sanding between coats. If sanding produces tacky or gummy residue, stop sanding immediately and wait until surface is no longer tacky to the touch. Remove all dust and wipe floor with a cloth dampened with mineral spirits.
Note: Sanding residue should be dry and powdery. If sanding residue is gummy or sandpaper, screen or pad clogs, stop sanding and allow additional dry time. Remove all sanding residue and follow precautions for safe disposal located on the cautionary panel. Accumulated sanding residue may spontaneously catch fire if not immediately disposed of in a sealed, water-filled metal container. Over-application, low temperature and high-humidity will increase cure time and may increase the risk of spontaneous combustion of the sanding residue.
8.Apply second coat following directions in Steps 4 & 5.
9.Only 2 coats are necessary to achieve optimal film build and durability. A third coat is NOT recommended. If a third coat is applied, wait at least 3-4 full days after the second coat. Sand and apply third coat following directions above.

To Sand and Recoat a Floor

1.Sand floor using 120-grit sandpaper. Remove all dust and wipe with a cloth dampened with mineral spirits.
2.Apply a thin coat using a lambswool or synthetic pad applicator. Maintain a wet edge to avoid lap marks. Ensure that the surface is evenly and entirely covered.
3.Only 1 coat is necessary to achieve optimal film build and durability. A second coat is NOT recommended. If a second coat is applied, wait at least 3-4 full days after first coat then sand and apply the finish following Steps 7 & 8 under “For new, stripped or unfinished floors” section.
Floors will accommodate light foot traffic 18-24 hours after the final coat. Avoid heavy traffic and wait to replace furniture for at least 72 hours after the final coat. When replacing furniture, do not slide. Do not clean floors or replace rugs for seven days.

Clean Up: For easy clean-up use mineral spirits or paint thinner.

Coverage: Approximately 400-500 square feet per gallon.

Note: Dry times are based on good ventilation, temperature of 77°F and 50% relative humidity. Lower temperature, higher humidity, lack of ventilation or application of thick coats will extend dry time. Slight ambering may be experienced when polyurethane is applied over light-colored wood surfaces. Always spot test on an inconspicuous area to ensure satisfactory results. For light-colored wood surfaces, we recommend protecting with Minwax® Polycrylic® Protective Finish.
